MID-SIZED HONDA BUILD UPDATE (2024): DUAL SPRING TRD SUSPENSION, 10 PLY LT TIRES & WEIGHT REDUCTION
First of all, I wanted to thank Honda and all the companies supporting the midsized Honda iVTM4 platform. My 2019 Honda Passport has been a very reliable and care free vehicle to own and while the aftermarket options aren't very plentiful, but there's some amazing people and brilliant minds supporting this platform.
In this video, I go over recent upgrades to my midsized Honda, which will also work on a 2016-2021 Pilot, 2017+ Ridgeline and 2019+ Passport.

WHY I ALMOST had to QUIT OVERLANDING
Переглядів 5 тис.14 днів тому
Ever since I got Pneumonia back in November of 2023, my adventure schedule was riddled with uncertainty. After multiple bouts of antibiotics and steroidal anti-inflammatory medication, my lungs started to recover. THEN, one day while driving to work on the freeway, I all of a sudden became discombobulated. In this video, I talk about the main reason I couldn't go on my adventures during the Win...
Modified AWD vs. Modified 4WD. Can I keep up on Moderate Off-road trail?

Just yesterday on May 26, 2024, I meet up with my buddy Chris from @avoverlandsupply . He organized a group meetup in Calico, and the plan was to drive up to the mines in reverse direction. This would mean we would have to go up a gradual, slight uphill climb. Can an AWD get through the moderately rocky terrain? Would you need modifications? What would be the biggest challenges? BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK: some reasons to GO, many reasons to NOT

On April 8th, after viewing the Total Eclipse in Harper Texas, we made our way to our group camp site in Big Bend National Park. This place has been on my bucket list for over a decade ever since I've heard so many people say this is their "FAVORITE" national park, out of all the national parks. The drive in was longer than I would have liked, so I was really hoping I would enjoy this place. Fr...

Your suspension is solid now! Dual Springs, wow.😮! Congrats on hiking The mountain. Is impressive! Back in a day. I did a back packing trip . Mt San Gorgonio! 40 something pound pack. 6000 ft to 11.500 ft elevation gain. Luckily I bought a water filtration system to fill up with the creek. Is which massively helped out. Is my friend. Dan and one other person with me. Slept on top! Epic stars like views like I never seen. ANYWAYS CONGRATS ! KEEP UP THE HARD WORK!

You’re setting yourself up for failure hiking with a 35lb day pack. 35 lbs is my weight for 4-5 days backpacking. Bring a water bottle with a built in purifier and fill up every chance you get. Try lighter hiking shoes/boots. I’m an overweight guy too and dropping pack weight makes all the difference. Shoot for 10-15 lbs.

We started to hike as a family because of us going on trails with the rig. My wife loves gardening and plants so naturally after going on trails she wanted to see more plants. It's also great for exercise and slows things down to enjoy nature. I was prediabetic and also suffer with severe sleep apnea which was finally diagnosed a year 1/2 ago. I have started to eat better and continuing to lose more weight and a CPAP machine has made a world of difference in my overall health. Keep at it man and your rig is nicely setup!

This reminds me of visiting Flinders Ranges National Park in Australia. It’s really good compared to everything on the way there, but kind of lame vs the best U.S. western parks. Flinders Ranges was about as cool as northern New Mexico. I lived in Houston for a decade and visited Big Bend National Park twice and Ranch State Park once. They are really good for Texas. Big Bend Ranch State Park is the closest we can actually get to western overlanding in the state. My more frequent trips were to do a long first day to Muleshoe NWR or Mills Canyon as a quick stop on the way to Colorado, NM, and Utah. Spending 4 days of a vacation driving to Colorado and back vs 2 days driving to Big Bend and back is worth it if you have enough time off work.

I first had this situation when I was young and my sister friend (had diabetes) had a problem and she asked for sugar and I had some gum and that fixed it till she got back. You have such great videos about your c pap machine for sleeping good and now for the diabetes!!!! Stay healthy!!! And move up here jond and grace!!!! We can help each other and adventure!!!!!!!

Going down in steep paths is almost as tiring as going up. One thing that definitely helps is using a walking stick while going down the mountain. An extra supporting point while descending makes all the difference and helps to prevent knee damage if you are heavy. I hope you did not develop hikers toenail either.

Congratulations on the weight loss and getting diabetes under control! My son's Boy Scout troop did a High Sierra backpack every summer and the best training for that was a high altitude hike when possible but the biggest help was a steep incline hike/walk every day. We used a very steep street near us and started going up the once and would increase it as we got in shape. End result was the boys and their dads, some of us in our late 50's made it up Kearsarge Pass 11,700 feet. Keep it up! can't wait to see Half Dome! Remember on a hike you're not on a diet! you need calories to burn so snack often

You make a lot of excellent points here. I think the one time we tried doing some moderate off-road in a CVT equipped 2016 Forester here in Jamaica the biggest limitation for us was throttle control/response. The hills were not super steep and power loss due to altitude wasn't much of an issue since we didn't go over 1000m or 3200ft. What was extremely hard was in the mud you trying to accelerate over an obstacle or get going in slippery circumstances and you put some throttle in, and then not much happens, and then suddenly wheelspin etc. The TRAC control will then cut power, or if you run with it off, things get a little hairy and it's hard to maintain lines. It was just extremely hard to modulate uphill. Not very linear despite the name lol. On the other hand coming back down the same muddy slope X mode saved our skins. There was no way we could do that and keep it on the trail by engine / wheel braking manually. The electronics managed our speed all the way back down

Watching the ending , where you talk about why you stick with the Honda. I get what you're saying about on-road comfort, I have a 4Runner and quite frankly I'm sick of driving it. It's not bad at all, I just do way too many highway miles to really enjoy it. I do think there is a middle ground though, the last generation Jeep Grand Cherokee is available with a low range, but has a very car-like driving experience. I drove my brother-in-law's 2014 Grand Cherokee and was blown away at how smooth it was compared to the 4Runner. I do a little research, they were available with the Hemi V8, can be lifted about 2.5 in, and can fit 33-in tires. They also have a 39 to 1 crawl ratio, which is better than the 4Runner. They can also tow 50% more than the 4Runner, if that is important to people.

I owned a 2005 Honda Pilot and I was driving through mud holes, never spinning a tire, while S-10 pickups were getting bogged down. There was just something about Honda's AWD that makes them nearly unstoppable off-road. In contrast I had a 2007 Lexus GX-470 that sucked off-road. Too heavy and traction was poor even with locking differentials.
